Overview: 

Painting a Bird Portrait in Acrylics
Suitable for beginners ages 12 to 16


We will complete a realistic bird portrait from start to finish ready for hanging.

- How to choose a painting surface
- You will learn how to prepare a surface for painting
- Learn to mix paint and make our own blacks
- Prepare a colour wheel
- We will set up a pallet and discuss what can be used for a pallet
- Composition
- We will draw and paint a local winter bird
- You will learn how to blend
- How to clean and care for your brushes.
- How to varnish your finished piece.
- You will learn how to hang your painting for display
- Framing options will be discussed

Dates:     Saturdays  starting January 14

Times:    10:00am - 12:30pm

Cost:      $25 per 2 1/2 hour class - $80 for series of 4 classes

  • Cadmium Red Hue
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Cerulean Blue
  • Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue
  • Lemon yellow
  • Titanium White
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Raw Umber
  • Yellow Ochre

Brushes:

  • I inch Flat Brush
  • No 6 Flat Brush
  • No 4 Pointed Round
  • No 2 Liner Brush
  • No 2 Small Filbert
  • No 2 Round Brush

Canvas:

  • 8”X8” or 10” x 10”


Other Supplies:

9”x12” watercolour pad 140 lb.
Sketching paper or pad
Pencil and eraser
Tracing paper
